Super Duplex stainless steels have carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, 24% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 6% nickel, nitrogen, and iron in the composition. On the other hand, duplex stainless steels are based around an alloying addition of 22% chromium. The level of chromium in the composition is important because the increase of chromium also increases pitting corrosion resistance. Duplex Stainless Steel is called Duplex because it is a mixture of duel phases. Its metallurgical structure consists of austenitic (face-covered cubic lattice as well as ferrite (body-centered cubic lattice).
